Dodge Durango Tail Light Install Guide
Upgrading the factory tail lights on a Dodge Durango completely changes the look and feel of the SUV. Beyond giving the rear end a sharper, more aggressive appearance, a lighting upgrade also improves visibility and functionality.

We recently filmed a full start-to-finish installation video showing exactly how to install Flow Series tail lights on the Durango. If you’d prefer to follow along step-by-step with video instructions, you can watch the complete guide below:
Dodge Durango Tail Light Install
Preparing the Vehicle
The first step in this install is disassembling the rear of the Durango so the factory tail lights and wiring can be accessed. Start by removing the interior trunk panel along with the lower cargo cover and subwoofer. Once those are out of the way, the driver’s side quarter trim panel needs to come off to expose the harness routing path.
With the interior opened up, you’ll have enough clearance to begin working on the factory light housings.
Removing the Factory Tail Lights
The center tail light assembly is removed first. Disconnect the main connector located on the passenger side as well as the connector for the backup camera. Once both connectors are free, remove the 10mm bolts securing the OEM housing and slide the assembly out.
The outer tail lights come off next. Each side is held in with two clips. Once the clips are released, gently pull the tail light housing away from the vehicle to free it.
Routing the Flow Series Harness
Important: The Blueghozt or custom harness should not be powered on until the entire installation is complete. Powering the system prematurely can cause damage.
To begin routing, take the two-pin DT and two-pin JST connectors and feed them through the driver’s side trunk cubby. The connectors for the center tail light should be run along the existing wiring harness toward the liftgate. Pass them through the OEM grommet between the body and liftgate, then follow the path along the driver’s side of the liftgate and across to the passenger side frame.
The harness for the outer tail lights routes differently. Start by dropping it through the opening in the center of the cargo area. From there, run it back along the factory harness and split the leads so they reach both sides of the vehicle.
Connecting the System
Once the harnesses are in place, install the supplied JST connectors. Four-pin connectors are used for the outer tail lights, while five-pin connectors are reserved for the center housing. In some kits the blue wire may be replaced with an orange wire—this is normal, but if you’re uncertain, reach out to support before continuing.
The controller and Flow Series harness connect to a DT splitter, which then plugs into the grey connector on the regulator. The regulator’s black plug connects to the relay harness. From there, the relay harness and switch need to be routed toward the front of the vehicle. The connection point is the battery located beneath the passenger seat. Mount the switch in a convenient location for regular use.
Optional Blueghozt Triggers
If you’re using a Blueghozt controller and want to take advantage of trigger functions, we recommend tapping into the BCM located in the passenger footwell.
Other trigger options include pulling turn signal input from the headlights, brake input from the third brake light, parking lights from the tail lights, and reverse lights from the tail light harness. Note: Because the brake and turn signal share a wire on the OEM outer tail light harness, triggers cannot be sourced directly from those housings.

Testing and Reassembly
After all connections are made, perform a full test before reassembling the interior. Check brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, and parking lights to confirm proper operation. If your kit includes animation or show modes, cycle through them to verify the Flow Series system is functioning correctly.
Once testing is complete, reinstall the interior panels, cargo cover, and subwoofer. The Durango is now ready to hit the road with a brand-new lighting setup that looks as good as it performs.
Final Thoughts
Upgrading to Flow Series tail lights completely transforms the look of the Dodge Durango. The sequential signals, bright running lights, and animated show modes add a unique edge that can’t be achieved with stock housings. When paired with the Blueghozt controller, the functionality expands even further, allowing complete customization of your lighting experience.
